2020 Nutri-GOaaaals!!!


Happy 2020! I am excited to reach out to you this new year and to remind you to fix in your nutrition into 2020 goals. So, a great way to start is having a sufficient and organized food supplies. This goes a long way in helping you and your family eat well as home-made meals are more enjoyable to prepare.

A good guide for stocking your pantry is to consider any food(s) in each of the groups below. Also, know that having rationed varieties of food supplies can make you more proactive in preparing your grocery list.

Starchy Foods: Whole grains like rice ( white, ofada, brown), oat meal, slurry ( “ogi” made from guinea-corn, millet, maize), etc., Breakfast Cereals( corn flakes, puffed cereals), Pasta, Noodles, Bread (whole wheat), Potatoes, Yam, etc.

Lean Proteins: Lean meat, Fish (salmon, mackerel, sardine and other scaly fishes), Shell Fish, Poultry ( white meat from chicken, turkey, goose, etc.), Eggs, Tofu (meat alternative made from soybeans), Beans, Peanut butter, etc.

Fat-free or Low fat Dairy products: Skimmed milk, Low fat cheese, Butter, Yoghurt, etc.

Vegetables: Lettuce, Carrots, Cabbage, Green Peas, Beet roots, Tomatoes, Peppers, Onions, Sweet Potatoes, Jute (Ewedu), Pumpkin, Spinach, Cucumber, etc.

Fruits: Apples, Banana, Pineapple, Plaintain, Orange, Grapes, Dates, Figs, Raisins( as accompaniments or as Juices or Smoothies).

Fats and Oils: Groundnut oil, Coconut oil, Palm oil, Olive oil, Sunflower oil, etc.

Nuts and Oil Seeds: Groundnut, Cashew nut, Walnut, Almond, Peanuts, Tiger nut, Bambara nut, etc.

Herbs, Condiments and Spices: Cinnamon, Bay leaf, Curry, Thyme, Paprika, Turmeric, Ginger, Garlic, Nutmeg, Salt, Locust beans, Honey, etc.

Beverages: Tea (leaves, cocoa, coffee), Zobo (dried petals of Hibiscus sabdarifa).
